- Confusion about whether recategorizing transactions affects historical forecast snapshots
- Need clarity on "rewriting history" when categories change
- Manual forecast export process still needed until historical data behavior is clarified
Feature Requests & Needs¶
- Investment management page (update interest rates, NAV, add investments)
- Clarity on forecast history preservation vs recategorization
Jobs & Desired Outcomes¶
Job: Compare forecast versions to identify and correct inaccuracies
Desired Outcomes: - Reduce the time spent manually exporting forecasts to spreadsheets for comparison - Increase the ability to drill into variance sources by category - Minimize confusion about how recategorization affects historical data
Job: Create custom dashboards to monitor cash position and forecasts
Desired Outcomes: - Minimize the time required to build dashboard components - Increase flexibility in how data is visualized (groupings, filters, formatting)
Domain Insights¶
- On team does manual forecast exports to spreadsheets for version comparison

Full Transcript¶
Them: Diversity tested. Yeah, but still can be really nice, I would say. We were doing a session for the forecast validation and introduced us the Palm Chat, which is basically having AI data analyst agent on all the data that is present in Palm and you can additionally put other inputs so that. It can't wait to more. You can talk to your forecast. You don't ask it questions. Yes, super cool. Is everyone? Innocent. Okay, so sidestep this session. We're going to do the self serve dashboards, walk through. Did we agree that someone would drive and try and create the three components? I'm happy to direct. Emma.
Me: I just wanted to flag quick 5 minute feedback on the invest you as well. You should receive it for the end.
Them: I think let's do it first. Let's do investments first. We don't have to worry about if this is also a dashboard, like how long it takes.
Me: Okay, cool.
Them: You go for it.
Me: So quickly, guys. We're looking to just validate the general direction. I'm going to show you. It's a static design. Right now, it will contain actually two things, so one is a bit of a sneak peek. We're going to release soon, hopefully within a week or two, where we're actually going to split the forecast overview page in the app into two. So one will be called variance analysis. And one will still be called forecast overview. And the point of them is that we want surfaces to go deeper in the backward looking things and variants and forecast analysis aspects and how product surface for that in palm. And we also want that surface in palm, where we go a lot deeper in the forward looking aspects. So your current cash position and then more features around the forecast and the forward looking aspects of our product. But I'll share the sign, which is also now taking into consideration investments. So what's going to happen quite soon is that you're going to get these filters on top of the forecast overview page. And what that means is you'll be able to select at what level you're looking at your data. So, Julia, finally you'll be able to look at your forecast from the point of view of just one or two entities at a time. So yay, it's happening. You'll be able to look at your cash pools only, or via a specific currency only region, country. So that you can slice and dice your current cash position and your forward looking data in that way. And you'll see your actuals backwards looking as well. But, Emma. So what would that mean? Is then we're also going to release this table where you can then group your balances. By also entity Cash Blue Occurrence so you can play around with the way you see your actual balances as well. If that makes sense. That will soon be released to y'all, but for investments. What we're imagining here is. Here's our designer. Hi. Tomorrow. For your forecast overview or your cash overview. What you want to see as your current balance, meaning your cash and cash equivalents. So you'd be able to. From this page, see, not just you like your liquid funds, but also your invested funds. And this is an overview. So we're imagining this would be the starting point. More of your cash. So we're thinking of having the investment aspects reflected both in these KPIs on top. Where you can see the split of the total balance between investments in cash. And in the chart here. Also just see the split between these would be your actuals, like your historical actuals. What is actual cash and what was actually investments. And for the future, this forecast, we're aware that this forecast for investments looks a bit weird. We'll get to that. But the idea being that you can see your forecasted investments. When they mature. So these lines would go down with maturity dates and so on. So you'd have that visual immediate overview of when your cash flow return to you, essentially. And then also we would like to have a bit of a table. Just focusing on investments as well. So you could see all your different time deposits. Maybe you have money market funds, maybe you have notes, accounts. We can keep adding different types of investments to Palm as well. So just like first reactions. Good bad hurts your eyes. No.
Them: Looks very good. Thank you. It's really good to have in a unique view all the different levels. Of cash. So really nice as of now.
Me: Amazing. So how we're thinking about this is visibility. First, we'll manage the ingestion bits and, and, and, and, and that side for now of your investments. But then naturally, where we would like to progress from here is a more investment focused page in the product. Where you can manage your like, maybe you want to change the interest rate somewhere, you want to update the NAT for the mma, but you want to update whatever, add one investment of your own. So we'll get to all of. That soon as well. Okay, cool. So then I feel that this general direction is validated. Cool. I'm happy. Let's move on to the self serve stuff. I think that's super exciting.
Them: Actually, we have one more thing to show. We were supposed to get that in the last session, but obviously got sidetracked. But Giannis, do you want to show the forecast for forecast? Dashboard. So you can put that out there and you can start testing it. And using it. Or do you want me to? I'm happy to show. Too. Can you sew it then? Because my browser is not responding. For some reason. Yes. I will. Just get it open. Has created a data set. A new view so we can review forecast. Different forecast version side by side. Hopefully you can see this. We've marked it as beta at the moment. Just while it's undergoing testing. So can you see that okay? So how the dashboard is set up currently is I have fixed the dashboard to show the latest forecast and the forecast prepared two weeks ago. You can change this and add all the versions. If you like. Or I can change the preset if you'd rather look at the latest forecast with the start of the quarter forecast. Or something like that. So how it is that currently is per entity? So you can see. The actual balance, you could say they're the same. Obviously, the actuals are the same. Compared to what the forecast was for that entity two weeks ago or in the latest forecast. And there is a variance that is a percentage. It's just not formatted as such. So, yeah, you can start. I know that this is a process that you've been doing manually for a while, but hopefully this will simplify that so you can start to weed out any inaccuracies. There is some visualizations of this too. The forecast by currency, entity and category. Obviously, they're slightly different in that these two are balances, because I know you're focused at the moment on balances, but I did want to add in Catholicry, too, so you could start drilling to where the energies were actually coming from. And I've broken this out into Windows 10 at the bottom for deeper analysis. Loads and more views you can do here. But this is a first look at the data set and like I say, play around with the filters. You can see every forecast for every week here, side by side. So hopefully this even helps with just the manual that you do in exporting the forecast into the spreadsheet. You can see all of the history here. Is there any questions on this? The moment. Sorry for the noise again. But super clear. I think that it's super helpful. I was just thinking, based on the last sessions we had on the forecast, If we had changes based on. For example, I recategorized the data, right? Today. If I check the past two weeks, it will be really a frozen snapshot, right? Nothing that I do now will change that data. Or will it change. It will change. I think that we can check. Well, there's two parts to it, isn't it? Because there is the big categorization change that we did, where the old categories don't exist anymore. There's that element of the remapping of the transaction. So they now feature in different categories, and I think that rule applies. But as Art said, the data exists for the frozen forecast, as they were that date. Nothing is deleted. But this particular view is recategorized transactions, if that makes sense, as I understand it. Okay? If you intact, right? Yes. I believe that it's correct. Okay? Because the categories using the deleted categories, for an example. Those transactions have all moved and they don't. But I think I might raise it again with Art and Simon. As to how we're actually supposed to cope with that rewriting history. So the pros and cons of it. And what is the best way to do that? Ongoing, because the forecast is always going to exist for every single week. I don't have the right answer, but have things. So, yeah, please keep exporting the forecast as you are until I have an answer. So, Amanda, if the question was if you change the category or if you categorize couple of transactions to a different category, The historical data will not be affected. It will only affect future, let's say forecasts. Was that the question? Yeah, because I think I understood this initially, but then I was kind of. Based on the last session, I was kind of. I understood that art that actually could change past forecast. I don't know. It sounds kind of weird to say that, but that's what I understood. And then I just wanted to confirm. Because it makes kind of no scientific change in that project. But since the data is live and it's kind of like a formula, Applying to the category somehow. But then I'm confused by what you just mentioned. But Jenny said sorry. Me too. I think I am also complete, which is why I asked the question the last session. And I think you raising that in this context has made me a bit more confused. So I'll keep it up with Art and Simon. I'll write you a message to explain what actually happens when you recategorize. And it also define what rewriting history actually means. In this context.
Me: We'd also love. Like how you would prefer for it to work. Like what would make sense to you from your point of view? You don't have to answer that now, but have a think, right? Like what? Is it? This is valuable input to us. Like how much the trade off between kind of preserving the historical accuracy and integrity of the data versus. Making it, like, easier. So it's. I guess also, you have input here, so we would love your feedback on how you would love for it to work. Just. Just as a reminder.
Them: Now let's finally do self serve dashboards. Do you have a volunteer to create some components? Again. Yes. Nice. Thank you. I'll talk you through it. Thank you so much. Just to sort of see how intuitive it is. If you mind sharing your screen. So we have the examples that we shared. But I will talk you through that. These are the most frequently used components in the dashboards and things that we hope. You all used to. So easy. If you want to add to an existing report or create a new report. So should I. From here. Yes, that is perfect. Okay, so the first component that we're going to make is the KPI card, which is a KPI metric that shows yesterday's cash balance. Okay? If we start by editing the dashboard. And adding a chart. That is the button to the right hand of the screen. Yeah, sorry. Covering that with me. Okay, so KPI number card. And we're going to look at yesterday's stories. Filter on the date. So yesterday. Should I add, like, another filter by entity we're considering global, for example. Yeah, let's do global. Let's see global. Does it turn it automatically or should I set it? If you don't apply a filter, it will just assume global. Okay, perfect. And then we just need to select a measure. Okay, so would be balance functional currency, right? Yeah. And call it API. Yes. Just a random. Currency would be you, Snip. And that's it, I guess. Now. Let's try and edit. It. The reason why the preview is not showing is that filter. So, yeah, if you delete that extra filter with the little bin that'll hover. Oh, not that one. Okay, if you will appear. That to the dashboard. Yeah. I think your usage of the filters there was much more intuitive than I expected, which is good. So the next one is to add a grooved bar chart showing the projected cash flows, and we're going to grade by currency. So if we add a new chart. And we're trying to look at the forecast transactions, basically. So group bar chart. Right y. Eah, Mr. Your last sentence, could you repeat? Yeah, we're looking for the forecasted transactions that are upcoming. Okay, so active forecast transactions, basically. Still. By. So something that I would usually do is I want to look at the most recent forecast. So I'd filter by last active forecast. Okay, so the date. There is actually a field called Last Active Forecast, so you can always reference that. Thanks. So. It should be here. Okay. Nice. Should I select true, right? Yeah, exactly. Forecast date. Yeah. And grouping. In the example, we're going to greet by category, so we can just see what the forecasts are going to be. So direct name? Yes. Sorry. Metric would. Be forecast. Total forecast amount. Yes, all functional amounts, sometimes in a graph. So then everything's in the same currency in its proportioned correctly. Okay? Granularity is by week. Is there a possibility also to filter per currency? Let's say if out of the whole group I'm interested in, I don't know, British pounds, for instance. There is. Yes. So if you add that to the dashboard, Rodrigo. Then the filters at the top. Are linked to the components, so at the moment that is set to functional currency dollars. However, if you scroll to the top in the currency drop down menu, You could see. Yeah, the gbp quiff red. Or if you. Set was a table. If you kept it in currency, so it was just instead of being functional accounts in currency, then you could actually see a GBP amount, because at the minute it's the USD equivalent of the GBP amount, basically. You do really well. Okay, the last one is the vivid table. And I think these are the three that we use the most often. The pivot table. If we add in a pivot. And in this case, we're going to show the closing, historic closing balances for the last seven days. Okay? Balance. Balance. Functional or non functional? Because it's a table. So the visualization is. Values should be data, right? The row so you could split it by entity or bank account. However, you would like to see the balances. And then the column values. We can choose the data. The only other thing that we could add here is we could add a filter at the top, say, last seven days or last month or something like that. So based on the date, we could select a date range. So then. Month should be okay. Last month of transactions. Perfect. In all of these tables and the visuals, there is the option to include or exclude the currency symbols, the decimal places and things like that. So once you've made. Your dashboard. You can decide if you prefer. Everyone's different, I guess, is they prefer to know. 53 million or you just want to see it rounded. There's an option down there to round it to millions and thousands. Of heat in this formatting section. Yes, exactly. Or abbreviate large numbers, as you said, right? Yes, if you select that to be true. You see? Yeah. You can see it in different formats. However, you and you can remove the currency code. Yes. Everyone has a different preference of how they look at their numbers. And yes, and there's also in some of the tables and charts, you'll see prefix and suffix. And that is again to give you the flexibility, if you like to see USD or euro or whatever you prefer. Was it I saw it. But perfection. That might faint. Because this one has so many options, it might. Then the last one where I did Prefix and suffer, they're both slightly different. But I will say all of these options, we can add more, hide them to show them. We've given quite a lot of options, but we can always simplify them. However, watching you use this for trick. I think it's more intuitive than I realized because you're quite easily following it through and adding the components and sort of looking at each of the sections. If you want to go ahead and add that to the dashboard. And press. Yeah, you could press down. So if you scroll down. These should all be here so you can stretch. Sorry, we've just come out of the editing bit. But you can always stretch the tables and resize them. And one little tip that I'd like to do sometimes is you can add a chart, you can add a text, and that is basically a white box. So if you just want to add page separators or titles or things that make it a bit unnote, there's a text chart where the text you can just add it as a white box if you like, or you can add as much detail as you like depending on who is going to receive the dashboard. And it also can help you format the chance to get them into the place you want. Just help. I don't want to do this anymore. No. Okay. Now. Wait. Okay. Perfect. Then you can shape. It's in the corner. Yeah, you can just expand it and use it to re shuffle your charter route, if that helps. Of course. Maybe, for example, this one should have it a bit like this. For this image. And then I can. Maybe the right spot, but I got you. That's very much thought from Nice. But yeah, like I said, that was just quick intro to some of the main components that we use over and over again in all the dashboards that you will recognize. But any feedback, any other visuals that you would like to see. Just let us just sketch it out on a piece of paper and we'll see what we can do. I think I should test it a bit more and then we'll come up with some question. I was thinking about Pam chat, but I don't want to put too much topics on the table. I think we already have a lot. Fair enough. You can message me on. Yeah, Mr. Personal palm chat.
Me: Federico, do me a favor and click the Cash Positions menu item in the navigation.
Them: Sorry. Okay.
Me: So we've updated it so you can now see your positions by for your full pool. And for your individual accounts, just as a nice little. A little extra. It just went live, so I thought it would be fun for you to see it.
Them: Cool. Thanks. Well, separating.
Me: Yeah.
Them: All. Right. So, yes, thank you very much, Rodrigo, for being such a good sport in doing that. Really good session. The first of many, hopefully, while we get this dashboard feature as usable as possible. Was there any other bits that you guys wanted to raise for this week? Really full, really cool. Sorry. Yeah, really cool. I think I'm just. I owe you a bit on the integration with the big ferry. At the moment, I think within you IPA for dynamics. So hopefully soon I'll have some timeline and updates, but still a bit under discussion. Okay. Perfect. Thanks a lot, Amanda. If you need any help from our end, let me know. Thank you. Okay. Well, thank you for two really good sessions. And we'll speak to you soon.
Me: Thank you.
Them: Thank you very much. Thank you. Regarding the thing that Rodrigo pointed out, we worked on it and the team is working internally to find out why we are reflecting different, some discrepancy, the data there. Thanks. Cheers. Thank you, everybody. Bye.
